The Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) offers a comprehensive Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aide (HHA) program designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in the healthcare field. This 10-week program equips you with the skills and knowledge required for state certification and employment in long-term care facilities. As a nursing assistant or home health aide, you’ll need to possess qualities such as attention to detail, compassion, patience, and strong listening skills. Your responsibilities will include monitoring patients’ vital signs, assisting with various medical procedures, and providing emotional and social support.

Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll have the opportunity to take the Certified Licensing Examination to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide and kickstart your career in the healthcare field.

LASC’s program offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes clinical experience and academic theory. You’ll gain critical-thinking, logic, and communication skills while learning how to report and treat patients’ health issues promptly. The program also covers effective communication with patients and their families, patient care, safety principles, infection control, and methods for providing physical care.

Before enrolling in the program, ensure you meet the prerequisites, including completing LASC’s Health 12 course. Additionally, getting involved in on-campus clubs and organizations, such as the Future Nurses of America and Toastmasters, can enhance your resume and demonstrate your commitment to building leadership skills and contributing to the healthcare community.
