The Los Angeles Technology Center offers a comprehensive Nursing Assistant: Long Term Care program designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the healthcare field. This competency-based course covers a wide range of topics, including anatomy, physiology, nutrition, medical terminology, diseases, and disorders. Emphasis is placed on safety principles, infection control, and the fundamental philosophy of nursing.
Students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to delve into nursing skills and clinical procedures, with hands-on practice in the classroom skills laboratory. These skills are further honed through practical experience in community health facilities. Upon successful completion of the program, which includes 60 hours of theory and 110 hours of clinical practice, students become eligible to take the state certification test. Passing this examination opens doors to employment opportunities in healthcare facilities.
To enroll in this program, students must meet certain prerequisites, including successful completion of the Health Information Tech/1: Terminology course (76-15-50). Additional prerequisites align with Home Health Aide courses. The program offers flexibility in terms of class schedules, with options available on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm, as well as Mondays through Thursdays from 4:15 pm to 8:00 pm.
